Intoxication Believed to Be a Factor in Serious Car Wreck

Two people are lucky to be alive after the vehicle they were in went off the roadway and into the Molalla River. 22-year-old G.D. was driving his car on Molalla Forest Road shortly after midnight on December 29^th with a single female passenger when he lost control. The vehicle hit the rocks on the side of the road and then flipped over to land upside down in the river. G.D.'s passenger D.F., 23 years old, was able to get out of the car on her own and swim to the far side of the river. Luckily, a man and some friends traveling home from a hunting trip came upon the accident scene shortly after it happened and provided life saving assistance. One of the good Samaritans climbed down to the river and was able to free G.D. from the overturned and sinking car. They climbed on top of the car while another man located D.F. on the other bank and wrapped her in a sleeping bag to keep her warm. Fire rescue was called to the scene and had to use ropes and a boat to get to the victims and bring them to the ambulances. G.D. and D.F. were taken to the hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries and hypothermia. Authorities said that they feel alcohol intoxication was a factor in the crash and G.D. was taken into custody upon his release from the hospital.
