Seven people were taken to the hospital after a recent accident involving a minivan and a Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) bus. The crash happened around 6:00 am when the DART bus involved was traveling north on Interstate 35 through the downtown Dallas area. The bus was just about to go under the 8th Street overpass when it was involved in a collision with a minivan. The minivan reportedly cut in front of the bus causing the bus driver to slam on the brakes and swerve to avoid the vehicle. The minivan collided into a cement retaining wall and then against the bus as it passed by. The driver of the DART bus escaped injury but four passengers on board were hospitalized. Three people from the minivan were also injured and taken by ambulance to area hospitals. Two other vehicles were also involved in the chain reaction collision but no one else was injured. About Bus Accidents in the Dallas Area
Bus accident cases can involve a variety of circumstances including those where the fault lies with the driver of another vehicle. Even in those circumstances when it may seem like an open and shut case, however, there are other factors that should be investigated. For example, had the bus been well maintained? Were there any mechanical failures that made it so the driver was prevented from avoiding a collision? Was the driver under the influence of any intoxicants, fatigued or distracted? Drivers for busses used for public transit, state or interstate travel, school and any number of other uses are responsible for the safety of the passengers on board and must be skilled and diligent operators of their massive vehicles. Additionally, bus companies, management, maintenance and manufacturers also share in making sure that the vehicle is safe and of a good operating condition. There may be multiple parties involved when it comes to determining liability in an accident.
