Intoxication Suspected of Being Factor in Serious Motorcycle Accident

Colorado Springs Police are investigating a serious injury accident that occurred when a motorcycle and a Ford Explorer collided recently. The crash happened late on a Friday when a man was driving his motorcycle through the intersection of Cimarron and Tejon. Investigators believe that the motorcycle was already in the intersection when the driver of the SUV failed to see it and began making a turn into the same intersection. The SUV cut in front of the motorcycle and the motorcyclist was unable to stop or avoid the larger vehicle. He struck the right front passenger side of the SUV and was thrown off his motorcycle. He landed in the roadway and suffered serious injuries.

Emergency medical personnel promptly arrived as well as authorities. The motorcycle driver was rushed to the hospital and in serious condition but is expected to survive his injuries. The driver of the Explorer, 41-year-old M.G., was not injured in the crash. Police spoke to M.G. and became suspicious that the man was driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
