A 50-year-old woman, P.M., was recently taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and crashing into man on a motorcycle and then fleeing the scene. The accident happened around 10:00 at night when a motorcyclist was struck from behind by someone in a sedan. He was thrown off his bike and seriously injured. A witness reported that the car stopped and the driver, a woman, got out of the car and checked on the injured man. The woman allegedly saw the man clearly in pain and then went back to her car and drove away. Witnesses called 911 and the man was taken to the hospital where he was in stable condition after being treated. Police pulled over P.M. in her car a short time after the accident took place. Reports state that she and her vehicle matched descriptions given by witnesses. The officer noticed that her car was damaged and that the airbags had been deployed. P.M. was observed to have a bloody lip and seemed to be confused according to the officer that pulled her over. The officer asked her to perform a field sobriety test in which she appeared off-balance and confused by the instructions. He also said he could smell the strong odor of alcohol on her and there was a bottle of alcohol on the back seat. She was asked to do a breathalyzer test which gave a blood-alcohol result of .189 percent which is well over the legal limit of 0.08 percent. She was subsequently arrested and authorities discovered that she had two prior DUI arrests. She has been charged with DUI, injury hit and run and vehicular assault.
