Woman Sends “I’m Drunk” Text to Friend, Causes Accident Moments Later

As drivers on the road, it is our responsibility to make sure that we are cognitively present as we control a motor vehicle which has the power to kill anyone it comes in contact with. While that statement may sound a bit overkill, this is how serious this topic truly is. Cars have the power to kill people in a matter of seconds, which is why when a driver is given a license, the state is agreeing to give that person the responsibility to abide in the laws of the road—all of them. Sadly, there are many individuals who break laws on the road over and over again, and in some cases multiple laws are broken at once.

This was the case for a young woman of the age of 20 years old. A.G. was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when she got into her vehicle last Saturday night (or rather early Sunday morning) and texted her friend that she was drunk, just moments before crashing into an oncoming vehicle on the road. This underage woman was drunk and texting behind the wheel, a sure recipe for disaster. Sadly, she crashed into an oncoming car as she was swerving in and out of the lanes, traveling also on the wrong side of the road. It is fortunate that the driver of the other car and her passenger (both 18 years old) were aware of this reckless driver on the road. She attempted to flash her high beams at A.G. though she remained unaware of the other car and eventually crashed directly into them.

Both the driver and the passenger injured both arms as a result of the accident caused by A.G. and the car was totaled, leaving the young woman without a method of transportation to get to work. According to reports, A.G. pleaded not guilty to the charges of underage drunk driving, however, she has most definitely incriminated herself by sending the text message to her friend the night of the accident. Although she argued with the police officers a that scene of the accident that she was not drunk at all, the police found her blood alcohol content levels to be twice the legal limit, clearly showing that she was in fact drunk. And in her text message, she was well aware of that reality.

The victims of the accident claim that this young woman's actions were both reckless and selfish, and that drunk driving is something that has now caused them to suffer. The male passenger of the victim's car explains a fact that those in our country need to be well aware of. He states that a driver should never get in the car drunk, and that they most definitely should not get in the car drunk and then text behind the wheel. By her to paying attention to the road and allowing herself to drive drunk she risked not only the lives of those in other vehicles, but also herself. Fortunately her actions resulted in only minor injuries for the two victims, as there are many who are not as lucky when hit by a drunk driver.

Statistics show that in the year of 2010 there were nearly 33,000 traffic accident deaths that occurred, and over 10,000 people were fatal victims of drunk drivers, accounting for 31 percent of all traffic fatalities that year. If you or a loved one have been injured in an accident caused by a drunk or distracted driver, do not hesitate in contacting a car accident attorney in your area to help you fight for compensation for you injury.
