A man charged in a deadly 2009 car accident will be going to trial soon after numerous continuances by the man's three different lawyers caused delays. 31-year-old P.V. was arrested after a crash involving two other vehicles. Police reports state that P.V. collided into the driver's side of a 57-year-old woman's car and then ran into a car being driven by a man whose wife was also in the vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was killed on impact while his wife was taken to the hospital in critical condition. She died of her injuries several days after the crash. It was discovered that P.V. had been driving under the influence and so was taken into custody and held on $1 million bond. Federal authorities also placed an immigration hold on the man. Were you involved in a crash involving a drunk driver? A car accident lawyer may be able to help you get due compensation for your injuries or the loss of a loved one.
Driver Had Previous DUI Conviction
P.V. had been convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol in 2006. That incident did not involve a car accident but it was determined that he had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of over twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent. A blood test revealed a BAC of 0.20. He is currently awaiting trial on three counts of DUI personal injury and property damage with a prior conviction and two counts of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide.
