The family of a little girl fatally injured in a car accident is trying to find some light in a tragic situation. Nine-year-old M.I. was sitting in the back seat of her aunt's small-size RAV4 SUV at the time of the wreck. The girl's aunt who was driving and a 10-year-old boy were also in the vehicle. The young boy was in the front passenger seat of the car and the aunt had stopped for a red light on the Monday morning two days before Christmas. Their vehicle was rear-ended by B.H., 66 years old, who was driving her much larger SUV. Reports state that B.H.'s Ford Expedition was traveling at about 35 mph when it struck the back of the stopped RAV4. Although M.I., her aunt and the 10-year-old boy were all wearing seat belts, all were injured by the impact. M.I.'s aunt and the boy escaped with minor injuries but M.I.'s injuries were much more severe. She was rushed to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento in critical condition having sustained very serious head trauma. The 66-year-old driver of the SUV was not injured. Authorities have stated that they do not think alcohol or drugs were involved but the possibility of distracted driving has not been discussed as the investigation is ongoing.
While M.I. did not suffer a single broken bone in the crash, the trauma caused to her head and brain stem were fatal. She died the next evening despite best efforts to repair the injuries. While her family was greatly saddened by the loss they recently announced that they have chosen to donate the girl's organs to those in desperate need of a transplant. Reports did not state whether or not the girl's family will be seeking a wrongful death claim against the woman who rear-ended the car she was in. Speak with a personal injury attorney if you or a loved one were seriously injured in a car accident.
